Everyone enjoys giving and receiving gifts, especially those that have been chosen after careful thought and planning. The problem is, sometimes we just can't find the time to rush into a store let alone get a well thought of gift. If you find yourself begging the heavens for inspiration on last minute gifts, here are some ideas that might help.

1. You can give the most personal gift of all; the gift of you. Many of us tend to overlook that the best gift we can give those that are close to us, is the gift of our time. Have you ever thought of taking your family to the movies or a concert? Spend time with those you love doing something special. Take your partner for a Christmas vacation. Be creative. You can make personalized coupons featuring services you intend to perform for your dear ones. Try giving your siblings a coupon saying you will babysit their kids for the weekend. Even quirky gifts like a coupon for hugs and kisses would be appreciated.

2. The gift of food. Food is the perfect last minute gift because it will always be appreciated and welcomed. You can give gifts of restaurant gift certificates or coupons. Most parents that have very young children are hard-pressed to find time to go out as a couple. Give them a restaurant certificate and offer to babysit the kids while they have some "together time." They will treasure your gift forever.

Cook for someone. Serve up a meal for your family. Bake some cookies. Toss a salad. If you can't cook then give a gift of cake or pie. Baked goodies are always welcome on any occasion.

3. Give space savers. People oftentimes overlook that space saving organizers and containers make great gifts. If you have children or have a close friend who has children, give the kids colorful containers that theu can store their toys in.

Even adults can benefit from organizers they can use to store their knick-knacks. CD organizers or photo albums are also great gifts. People love to take pictures but often forget to get albums.

4. The gift of memories. Cameras make spectacular gifts. They don't have to be the really expensive ones. Even disposable cameras are wonderful gifts especially for children or teens. Make sure you include batteries and a few rolls of film to go with it.

5. The gift of communication. If you are trying to think of a great gift for someone who lives far away, consider giving a pre-paid phone card. They are available everywhere and you can even get country-specific ones. Pre-paid phone cards don't even require special shipping, you can easily send it inside a card or a letter through the mail.

Most of these are gifts you can get at the very last minute and some are a combination of what may already be found inside your home and your creativity. Take time to think about what your loved ones or friends may enjoy and then proceed on which of these ideas you may use. Remember that not all the best gifts from a mall or gift shop.
