Good working starts with good wood. In this article I discuss how to choose lumber and how to adapt your plans to work with what is locally available.

The most common building material for woodworkers is the softwoods; pine, redwood or fir. These are readily available at your local lumberyard or home improvement store. In addition to be readily available the softwoods are also the least expensive so, let's take a closer look.

: Do you like to build with wood? Do you find yourself lingering in the tool aisles, sighing at the site of fresh oak lumber? It takes more than just a thought or a picture in your head to create something memorable and satisfying. Without a plan, all that beautiful lumber will be nothing more than firewood. Good Woodworkers use plans. Here are my thoughts about using premade plans and suggestions
